Fans of Weird Al Yankovic — or simply fans of concerts that allow us to laugh with the performers rather than at them — started an online petition yesterday to have the legendary parody artist headline next year's Super Bowl halftime festivities. Citing Weird's (we're on a first name basis) "unparalleled showmanship," "wide-swath of musical styles ranging from grunge parody to rap parody," and "geek appeal," the petitioners argue that a Yankovic halftime show would unite the nerds at the "leading edge of popular culture" as well as a more general audience resulting in "killer ratings" — something the Super Bowl has clearly been lacking.
