Why you shouldn't text racist things about the giant defensive tackle sitting next to you in coach.
NFL

Next time you're trying to squeeze in that last text before take-off, here's decent piece of advice: try to avoid all situations where a 6'4 335 lb. professional football player sitting next to you can catch you writing something fairly racist about him. The following series of tweets from Browns defensive tackle, Phil Taylor, will illustrate why.

Um, why is a professional football player riding in Coach??? Black, white, yellow, or red?

  • todd | 03/26/2012 flag

If the football player had been white, would the other passenger have said "6'4 260 white guy next to me"? If you think he would have said that then he probably enjoys using adjectives. If not, then I would consider it racist because the color of his skin has nothing to do with whether he is large and makes it uncomfortable for you to be in the middle seat. I am far from PC, but I'm with the football player on this one.

The only person that's racist is the author.

    What was racist about that?

  • Tara | 03/25/2012 flag

Because being black does not have any relevance to the amount of elbow room the white passenger is missing. He added that adjective to make his predicament seem even worse. Hence the mild racism. If you caught someone typing FML about having to sit next to you, you probably wouldn't be too thrilled.

yeah, if the guy said the n-word or something really racist, i can see the offense. One time on a plane i had a window seat, there was a guy next to me and a large woman (she was a minority, i dont know what)on the aisle seat. When she went to the bathroom after takeoff, the guy next to me leaned over to me and said "some people should just keep their fat asses on the reservation"

    ....now THAT is offensive.

You keep using that word "racist". I do not think it means what you think it means.

All I see is someone "eavesdropped" on another passenger's private conversation with 1person that, at worst, could be described as "excessively descriptive" and then proceeded to behave in a rude way solely to cause grief. Not satisfied with that, he then went on to publicly humiliate him in text and photos to numerous followers on Twitter.

But, yeah, describing someone as "black" is the problem.

yep. dont see the racism. the guy happens to be big and black. i see nothing derogatory about those adjectives. if you think thats racist, you probably are but are unaware of it

I don't even know text talk and I know that FML means "Fuck my life". Try rereading what he wrote slowly this time. LOL Idiots...

  • matt | 03/25/2012 flag
