Kentucky town honors national champion basketball team with world class illiteracy.
BASKETBALL

The great thing about stereotypes is that they're 100% true, all the time. Don't believe us? Well then why don't you go ahead and explain why the cousin-banging illiterate bumpkins in Pikeville, KY weren't able to write a short honorary plaque without two typos. And don't say "because engraving machines lack a proper spelling and grammar check feature" because the fact that you would even know whether they do or not is just weird.

Nothing is worse than a spelling or grammar error. NOTHING.

Grammar and spelling mistakes are a huge pet peeve of mine. This is no surprise to anyone who knows me. However, they are just that...mistakes, and we ALL make mistakes - not one perfect person exists in this world. While I admit that I rant from time to time about petty things like this; I have NEVER judged an entire area or stereotyped them due to the mistakes of a few...this is not okay.

I am PROUD of where I am from and I take it very personally when people stereotype us as "dumb, illiterate hillbillies." Anyone that takes the time to get to know people from this area can clearly see that we are good, honest, hard-working people - in spite of occasional mistakes.

So, for the person/persons responsible for the article regarding the grammar/spelling errors on the plaque presented to Coach Cal in Pikeville yesterday; I say this - did you stop to consider the fact that they had less than 24 hours notice that he was going to be there? Did you stop to consider anything at all, except to try to make yourself look better by making someone else look smaller?

What you have done is far, far worse than any spelling or grammar error. You have judged someone else and ridiculed them publicly... you must be so proud of yourself. Perhaps when you're finished, you can enlighten the dumb, illiterate hillbillies and teach them how to become perfect like you.

I hear it is proper to start a sentence with the world And.
